Title: Celtic Woman Will Visit U.Va. Post by: Don on December 17, 2009, 06:23:41 AM Celtic Woman, the Irish music phenomenon, has announced its new U.S. tour in support of its CD/DVD release of "Songs from the Heart," available on Jan. 26 through Manhattan Records.
Tickets went on sale this week for the group's Feb. 19 performance at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. The group is set to entertain audiences with what the Cleveland Plain Dealer has called a "highly polished, tightly choreographed extravaganza." The group moves easily between Irish classics, contemporary covers and original compositions. During the upcoming "Songs from the Heart" tour, fans have the opportunity to experience Celtic Woman's latest production featuring renditions of "Amazing Grace," Jimmy Webb's "The Moon's a Harsh Mistress," Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Pie Jesu," Billy Joel's "Goodnight My Angel," as well as the Irish classics "My Lagan Love," "Galway Bay" and "Níl Sé'n Lá." On the "Songs from the Heart" CD, musical director David Downes tries to capture the essence of Celtic Woman by showcasing the sounds of vocalists Lisa Kelly, Chloë Agnew, Lynn Hilary and Alex Sharpe along with the inventiveness of Celtic violinist Máiréad Nesbitt. The CD features studio recorded versions of songs performed during their PBS TV Special "Songs from the Heart — Live at Powerscourt House & Gardens."
